About
Adrianne Verhoeven built her music career lending her vocal and keyboard chops to bands like the Anniversary, Art In Manila and Fourth Of July - but Dri, as
Adrianne is known to her friends, has spent her 20's seeing the world, falling in and out of love and dreaming all the while of stepping out and rocking the mic on her own.
Dri's debut record, 'Smoke Rings', is just that: a collection of kisses (and kiss-offs) blown to past and present loves, a swirl of stoned immediacy, of feelings and melodies coming to life in loose perfection.
(Note from Zach:) The vision for 'Smoke Rings' was to curate tracks from some of our favorite beat-makers in Lawrence and build the songs upon them. Say My Name, Josh Powers, Nezbeat and 1,000,000 Light Years all came through with incredible jams. Dri would then ad-lib lyrics and vocal melodies over the tracks, which we would flesh out together, sending notes and ideas back and forth. Once we had our collection of solid demos, we rented out a studio at Mixtape SoundLab in Lawrence for a week and brought in ace Engineer Jim Vollentine and a handful of friends and musicians (Fourth Of July's Kelly Hangauer, Steve Swyers and Brian Costello, Dave Swenson from the Danny Pound Band, Save The Whales' Lindsay Mayer and the amazing Orenda Fink) to make what sounded to us at the time - and still sounds now - like the record of our dreams.
